Star Fleet Emblems

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Did you notice the Star Fleet emblems in the new ST film? I did!

Mike Okuda, a TOP graphic designer, created several ST logos and his talents recently earned him the NASA Exceptional Public Service Medal. Mike has been designing ST emblems for quite some time, as well as work on NASA’s own Project Constellation (Constellation, Ares, Orion and Altar) as well as the new Ares I-X test flight. He also designed the mission patch for the STS-125 mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope, and the ‘unofficial’ Space Rescue team emblem for the STS-400 (possible) rescue mission.

His prior work also includes designs for the Johnson Space Center, the Kennedy Space Center as well as NASA headquarters in DC.

What would Star Trek be without proper emblems? We salute you Mike!

Lost in Space

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

We use Netflix. Do you?

It’s a great resource for not just the new releases, but old movies and tv shows too.

We’ve been watching Lost in Space, in order from the very beginning.

It’s interesting.

I’m glad that I enjoyed it as a child, but, I doubt if it would fly today, at least not without a LOT of updating. You sure have to use your imagination when watching it!

Watching it every day, episode by episode sure makes me feel sorry for Maureen Robinson. Here she is, a biochemist relagated to making sandwiches and cookies………

Do you speak Klingon?

Father’s Day is fast approaching. What are you getting YOUR trekker dad?

I saw a cool t-shirt:

I survived the Kittimer massacre and all I got was this T-shirt.

Lol – it was over at Zazzle….

Procrastination

Monday, June 8th, 2009

We, as a couple, I’m talking about myself here, as well as my other half, fell victim to PROCRASTINATION.

We, trekkers that we are, put off going to Burger King to get our coveted Star Trek glasses, and now, now they’re ALL SOLD OUT!

We bad.

It Ain’t Your Grandma’s Star Trek

Friday, June 5th, 2009

The historic, classic Star Trek will live on in reruns and other media forever, but, the new generation of ST fans have technology on their side. You don’t need much imagination to see how today’s ST film can restart the trekkie fan base in a whole new generation.

Zachary Quinto (Spock), Chris Pine (Kirk) are impressive as young Star Fleet officers. There are many worlds awaiting for this new crew to explore. JJ Abrams does a fascinating job recreating this sci-fi epic story.

Holodeck a Reality?

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Its coming!

The beta version of a new gaming platform, code name: Project Natal, features holodeck style gaming!

In its beta stage the current project uses cameras, sensors and microphones to sense where the player is in the room, as well as his or her movements and actions.

The screen avatar presently takes the shape of the player and moves as the player moves.  Jumping, waving, kicking. And the best part?  NO CONTROLLER!  Yes, its hands free.

Hmmmm, wonder if we really need that extra bedroom?  Surely we can install our own holodeck in that room!

Fascinating

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Spock: “Fascinating” is a word I use for the unexpected. “Interesting” shall suffice here.

The new Star Trek movie is both! It’s fascinating and interesting too!

It’s edge of the seat excitement coupled with terrific ST humor and a study of it’s predecessors.

I truly believe Abrams did a fantastic job and I, personally, can’t wait for the next saga…
