Isn’t it interesting that the same people who laugh at science fiction listen to weather forecasts and economists?

Remember when Scotty shared the formula for transparent aluminum in Star Trek IV? It resulted in the clear compartments that ultimately saved the whales. Well, it looks like transparent aluminum is becoming a reality now!
A team of scientists from Oxford have created a transparent form of aluminum by seething the metal with the worlds most powerful soft x-ray laser. A pulse from the laser knocks out a core electron from every aluminum atom (in a test sample) without disrupting the structure. This resulted in an aluminum that is nearly invisible to extreme ultraviolet radiation.
Way to challenge time and space Scotty. How’d you do it?
Is the new Star Trek movie on your ‘must have’ list?
This years Star Trek movie is due to be out on DVD on November 17th, just in time for holiday purchases.
Course, if you’re like most trekkers, you’ll buy it the day it hits the stores, leaving your m-i-l wondering what can she possibly buy you now?

The Star Trek film will be released in three versions, a one disc version, a bonus two disc dvd and a three disc blu-ray. So plan on buying one and ask for the other for Christmas!
Lt. Colonel John Sheppard (aka Joe Flanigan) has signed up for TWO of Creation Entertainment’s Official Stargate SG1/Atlantis/Universe conventions. Joe will be attending the Los Angeles convention on November 6-8 and the Vancouver convention on April 15-18, 2010.
LA has scheduled some other great sci-fi names for the convention, including, Ben Browder, Michael Shanks, Paul McGillion, Cliff Simon, Ryan Robbins and Robert Picardo. The VERY SAME WEEKEND has a FARSCAPE convention going on in the same hotel! TWO great science fiction events in ONE hotel!
GOLD ticket holders can attend both conventions for one price. I say, “Go for the gold!”
I’ve been to a few sci-fi/comic book conventions and I’m sure you have too. In the sales and booth room, big names are usually noticable absent.
The upcoming Comic-Con will put an end to that!
The world reknown Comic-Con is scheduled for this weekend, July 23-26 in San Diego.
Paramount is planning a booth there complete with an Enterprise replica bridge, ‘green’ girls, and plenty of Star Trek prizes to gift.
Looks like the sci-fi fans attending this convention will be talking about this convention for eons!
