Just In Time

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Just in time,

Well, just BARELY in time. Due for release on December 15 is the blu-ray version of Star Trek, the original series, Season 3.

TIME to add it to your calendar so that your trekkie gets a nice surprise in his Christmas stocking.

Of course, make sure that your trekkie HAS a blu-ray player! Otherwise, how’ll he watch it?

WE made the mistake of getting a blu-ray right when they first came out, then returned it for the competition’s HD player, only to have those go ‘up’ in smoke. We ended up with just a plain old everyday dvd player… ….

Course I still have my original Betamax player out in the garage… … …

Star Trek Finds

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

I love Star Trek gadgets, and so does the man I buy ST items for…

Today I found some little wood dolls that look like original ST characters, Kirk and Spock (and others too!).

They’re just $12 and will make great stocking stuffers. You do still have stockings for the grown trekkies in your life, don’t you?

You can find them at http://www.fatcatstudio.com/.

No, Fat Cat Studios doesn’t know me – they aren’t paying me. I’m just sharing what I found!

Darn Fire

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Last night I missed Heroes AND The Big Bang Theory. There was an enormous apartment complex fire in Edmond (North of OKC) and it monopolized the news for ages. They preempted MY SHOWS!

What did I miss?

Well for one, Will Wheaton was a guest actor on the Big Bang Theory.

I missed it!

Star Trek Flash Drive

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

I heard there’s a new ST themed flash drive complete with a ST movie already loaded on it!

It’s just $29 and apparently only available in the UK. I’m feverishly searching for a website that will let me order one to the US.

I need this!

Sams & ST

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

I noticed the other day that Sams Club has some ST figures on their website. Excited I headed down to ‘my’ Sams only to find that ‘my’ Sams doesn’t carry them. Looks like they are online only.

So, these new ST figures will make nice Christmas gifts for the ST fan I buy for.

How many should I get?

ST Experience

Friday, October 9th, 2009

You do know they closed the Star Trek Experience don’t you? Now, what will I do if I win a trip to Vegas?

Thankfully, I have no immediate plans to head that way, but I heard plans are on the way to move the Experience to a mall in Vegas.

So, yeah, I’ll have a reason to go to Vegas.

Shatner says “Take me back to Tulsa”

YES, Shatner will be attending the 2010 Trek Expo in Tulsa this coming June 25-27.

Visits from the original Star Trek series are getting harder to come by and Oklahoma is pleased to have gotten ‘the Captain” to visit.

Tickets are already on sale for the Tulsa event at TREKEXPO.NET

Disclaimer: StarTrekFinds has received no renumeration of any kind from TrekExpo.net. We’re just fans!

City of Ember

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

We watched a movie last night, that we somehow missed when it was in the theatre, IF, it was in the theatre, and I don’t know why. It was a great film. City of Ember.

It’s a post-apocalyptic film where the survivors live underground, with a twist. They were supposed to live underground for a period of 200 years, only with the passage of time, the memories of what they were supposed to do were lost and forgotten.

Food is becoming scarce, the equipment that keeps the city running are falling into a stage of disrepair that can’t be maintained. The place is falling apart.

Bill Murray plays the fat town mayor. Surely folks must have wondered how he could be fat when everyone is approaching starvation?

The story is full of suspense, and salvation.

It’s a must for your Netflix list!

Computer: Earl Grey, hot

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Those smart fellas over at Langley have developed EBF3, an Electron Beam Freeform Fabrication, manufacturing technology, very similar to Star Trek technology.

What does it do?

It’s a fabrication process that starts with a drawing of the item you want. You push a button, and out comes the part!

This green process creates very little waste and is best used when you just need one, or a few of something. Much cheaper than a full blown manufacturing process.

Wonder how long it will be before we see a ‘home’ model?
