A team at the Imperial College London is working on an alcohol substitute much like the synthahol Guinan served in Ten Forward.
The new synthetic alcohol is being created from ingredients related to valium. It’s touted to provide the same good relaxing feelings that regular alcohol provides without addiction, or mood swings or hangovers. There’s even an antidote!
Still many folks preferred the real thing, part of the reason Scott kept a bottle of Saurian brandy in his quarters!
Star Trek 2 plans on starting production in just under a year.
It’s been rumored that JJ Abrams together with Bryan Burk (from Bad Robot) are currently building the script and plan to go into pre-production in late 2010.

ST Scene It
I bought Star Trek Scene It for my spouse for Christmas.
He actually opened it! That’s a feat it itself. Most, if not every ST gift I’ve ever given him has been left in the original wrapping and stashed away in a box.
This time, we got to play.
Now, I think I’m a decent trek fan, married to a trekker. But, I didn’t do so well on the game. He won of course.
I’ve never been a big on remembering the names of episodes and that certainly helps in this game.
I got a few right, but not nearly as many as him.
This game would be a blast though, when played with an entire group of ST fans!
