Vancouver Cafe Star Watching

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Can you even imagine, sitting in an outdoor sidewalk cafe, sipping your favorite beverage KNOWING that each minute that goes by is one more minute that you just might catch a glimpse of a sci-fi star?

I’ve seen pics of many of the Stargate crew sipping 100% Arabica coffee in Vancouver, haven’t you? I’ve heard that the trendy Vancouver restaurants are one of their favorite hangouts! It’s not just Stargate filming there. You’ll also find Psych, Eureka and (others). Scully & Mulder filmed there as well as many other film and tv shows.

I just ‘need’ to go there myself, grab a seat at a Vancouver cafe, order some fancy European coffee, and wait for Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks to show up.

That’d be Stargate heaven.

Funeral Planning – Wrath of Kahn

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Remember the space burial toward the end of “The Wrath of Kahn”? The services were held in the Enterprise’s torpedo room and Spock’s coffin was shot into orbit around the new planet formed by the Genesis device.

Every single time that I see one of those hard plastic molded ‘coffin’ shaped luggage racks on top of a car trolling down the interstate, I always think of ‘that’ scene.

Hopefully most folks put more thought into funeral planning. You could even consider prepayment. That way you get what YOU want, (and not shot down to a Genesis planet without thinking ‘that’ through, although in the end, it ‘was’ a good decision.) Your services – your choices.

Winner of the Night of the Living Trekkies

is Trekkie Kim!

How’d I choose?

Having not given anything away before, I wasn’t quite sure how to do it, and be fair. So I used the randomizer at random dot org and it said number four.

And four is Trekkie Kim.

Congrats!

Star Fleet Beauty School

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Picard didn’t need a barber. Neither did the holographic doc, but surely all the other members of any of the crews of the different Enterprises, must have needed a barber, or a hair stylist at some point.

What did they do?

The women always had perfect hair. Was there some ‘machine’ they stuck their head in every morning?

There was a sick bay, the transporter room, the holodeck, 10 Forward, the galley, individual quarters, and the infamous Jefferies tubes, but where did they get their hair cut and styled?

Surely someone in Star Fleet must have gone to Star Fleet beauty school. Someone must have learned to put ‘up’ Janeway’s hair and to tame Guinan’s long locks.

Can you imagine all the different techniques someone would have had to learn? Alien hair, balding heads, earpieces, wigs, updo’s, and the sleek dark Vulcan look?

I hope that the next Star Trek film shows a glimpse into some of the other Star Trek jobs on board, like hair! Everyone has it – well, except for some alien species…

Real Men Watch Star Trek

Friday, September 10th, 2010

Real men watch Star Trek. They always have and given the fact that Star Trek keeps coming back in film and television, they just might always watch Star Trek.

If you go back to the original series, what did you see in every single solitary episode? Of course there was fighting, war and destruction but Kirk always won the girl. The testosterone was flowing!

His raw sex appeal and obviously flowing testosterone levels had even women watching. (They loved when his shirt would get torn off.) Did you know that back then chest hair showing was considered vulgar? Shatner actually had his chest shaved for the role of Kirk.

Kirk wooed women show after show. Remember Joan Collins as Edith Keeler? Miramanee, Moreau, Nurse Rand, and Dr Marcus? The man got around. He even managed the first bi-racial kiss on television.

Later on in the show we started meeting other major MANLY players including, but not limited to Khan. Many a woman swooned when they caught a glimpse of ‘that’ chest. Reference the Wrath of Khan

There’s no doubt that Star Trek film and television has been filled all these years with manly men all the more reason why today’s man still likes Star Trek.

It’s got to be the testosterone flowing like mad.
