Free Medical Onboard

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

Ever wonder ‘how’ the medical service actually works on board the Enterprise?

I mean, is it all just ‘free’? Part of your employment?

Is there a limit?

Does someone decide that it isn’t cost effective to run across the galaxy to look for a cure, for one person?

Who does the paperwork?

You never see any paperwork. Sure, there are a few ‘tablet’s on later shows, but who compiles it? Turns it into ‘headquarters’? Do they use some kind of medical billing services for outsiders/aliens or is that free too?

Collaborative Brainstorming

Saturday, January 21st, 2012

There’s a new way to ‘work together’ and it’s called Qikpad.

This handy online tool allows multiple people to all log in and work on the same project.

Now, while I wouldn’t utilize this for proprietary works, Or the formula for transparent aluminum, I can certainly see where this site would work for many a collaborative effort.

Collaborative brainstorming at it’s best!

A Chimpanzee and Two Trainees

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

If Scotty had the internet like we do today, I know he’d set up some fine sites. He might even start a ‘do it yourself’ fix it up site focusing on making innovative machinery, parts, and the like. He could even start a membership site where people would log in and discover all the new things he (and other members) were in the process of creating.

I’ve joined a few membership sites myself. They’re not only a lot of fun, you end up focusing on items with like-minded people.

Did you know that you can create a membership site using Kajabi?

Imagine Scotty teaching trekkers about the latest engine components.

“Aye, Any man who could perform such a feat, I wo’d na dare disappoint.”

Chatting about conductors, “The engine imbalance is what caused the worm-hole in the first place. It’ll happen again if we don’t fix it.”

And helping people out when they get stumped. “And if my grandmother had wheels, she’d be a wagon.”

Such sites are the next round in home-based ecommerce. What kind of membership site could you create? Shoot, with Kajabi, “A chimpazee and two trainees could run her!”

Star Trek Mind

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

Sometimes Trekkies/Trekkers can see Star Trek in the most mundane of objects. Take for instance this Star Trek sweater that Butt Ugly Sweaters has.

In reality, it’s really just a very large houndstooth design, but ya know, the more you look at it – the more it does resemble the Enterprise.

Quark & Text Message Marketing

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

If Quark were opening a local bar these days, how would he promote it?

With “text message marketing“!!

Quark learned a lot of business sense when he was a cook (on a Ferengi freighter). He sold food and other goods on the side. He then helped broker some deals with some Gamma Quadrant races (and the Ferengi) before finally opening his bar.

He’s got good business sense, so today’s mobile marketing would be a natural to him. Besides, Ferengi Rule of Acquisition # 9, Instinct plus opportunity equals profit, in today’s world, translates to taking advantage of every marketing opportunity. And the affordability of mobile text messaging goes right along with rule # 78, There is a customer born every minute. And it’s your job to find them.

Check out http://www.84444.com to learn how you too can profit from today’s technology.

Klingon Boots

Monday, August 8th, 2011

Did you miss ComicCon?

Me too.

We sometimes hit the local sci-fi conventions but we’ve never ventured out to the big ones.

What’s the MOST fun thing about these conventions? Well, other than seeing all the people dressed up as their favorite characters?

Dressing up yourself, of course!

These days you don’t have to scurry all over the place trying to find bits and pieces to make up your costume, as we have the net!

While many people ‘do’ make their own costumes there are still many pieces that you have to purchase.

Like the original ST series sleek fitting boots. Or captains boots. Where do you find those?

You can find motorcycle boots that will fit the bill (as well as boots for your ‘other’ interests) at Rocky Top Leather!

Wouldn’t these be a great start for some Klingdon boots?

Want a Star Trek-themed wedding? Are you up for a challenge?

Then we want to hear from you!

In a brand new series for Sky Living, two brides-to-be will get the chance to share £25,000 for the big day. All you have to do in return is work in harmony together to plan an identical wedding day.

We’re currently looking for brides who want a Star Trek-themed wedding. Maybe you want a TOS mini-dress as your wedding dress. Maybe you want Odo to give you away. Maybe you want a Tribble as your ring-bearer. With a budget of £25,000 we’re looking for people who want to be really creative and go all out with it. And don’t just be limited to Star Trek – if you want cylons or a TARDIS to be involved we’d love to hear about it.

Quilted Spock

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

Every now and then you come across someone doing an old style craft with high-tech (or futuristic) style. In this case it’s a quilter! A quilter.

I know, you’re envisioning your grandmother or great aunt with a needle and thread aren’t you. Well, this ‘ain’t’ your grandma’s quilt!

It’s SPOCK!

Lean back a little, it’s easier to see. Meant to be that way…

The quilt was made by Carol at Fun Threads for a quilt contest. Guess the title? Fascinating.

How cool is that?

Credits, Cubits & Standards

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

No matter ‘where’ in the known universe (or parallel dimension) (or quadrant) you need currency.

Currency might come in the form of credits (or cubits), or more specific as in ‘transporter’ credit or “federation” credit, but even the tightest Ferengi knows that controlling debt is as important as making a profit (A Ferengi without profit is no Ferengi at all. )Ferengi Rule of Acquisition # 18.

So no matter whether you’re dealing in Ferengi frangs, or Klingon darseks, or even Galactic Credit standards, you need to know how to manage your money after all Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #23 states: Nothing is more important than your health–except for your money.

Learning to handle all aspects of your income (and outgo) is an important part of your own personal consumer debt management. Ferengi Rule # 106: There is no honour in poverty; and therefore no reason for you NOT to learn to manage your own funds.

Stay on top of your finances. Check your credit score. Find lower interest rates, analyze your finances, your debt to income ratio.

The more you know, the better prepared you’ll be. No one ‘can’ become better prepared to take care of your own finances than yourself, a well prepared you anyhow. You need to look out for yourself and your own money because well after all…
“Deep down everyone’s a Ferengi. ” (Rule # 284)
