What happened when John Crichton ran out of fuel?
He had to have his unit reconfigured to run on an alternate fuel.
What happens to a hydrogen powered vehicle (at the current point in time in the vast US) when it runs out of fuel?
It stops.
Why? There aren’t YET enough hydrogen fueling stations around. But Powertech Labs is working on that. They have the design expertise of hydrogen fueling stations.
A hydrogen station is a storage or filling station for hydrogen, usually located along a road or hydrogen highway, or at home as part of the distributed generation resources concept.
The stations are usually intended to power vehicles, but can also be used to power small devices. Vehicles use hydrogen as fuel in one of several ways, including fuel cells and mixed fuels like HCNG. The hydrogen fuel dispensers dispense the fuel by the kilogram.
Powertech Labs understands that the production of hydrogen vehicles has exceeded the availability of hydrogen fueling stations. Although we produce hydrogen and refuel vehicles directly from our 700 bar station at our facility, we know that until hydrogen fueling stations are as accessible as gas stations, we need a portable solution.
Powertech has designed a series of portable hydrogen fueling stations, where the stations are parked where needed and then refilled with compressed hydrogen for remote refueling of hydrogen vehicles. These trailers enable the provision of hydrogen for short term needs in any remote location.
Powertech has provided hydrogen for showcase events in Whistler, Victoria, and throughout the Lower Mainland of BC.
