Antique Stores

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

The week before Christmas I was toolin’ around Norman and decided to stop in at my favorite antique store as you never know ‘where’ you might stumble across an old Star Trek item.

Downtown was busy, and I had to circle the block more than once before I found a parking spot. Then I had to walk all the way down to the store.

And
IT WAS GONE!!!!

Geez. That’s what happens when you don’t frequent a store enough. It goes away.

Does anyone know? Did The Company Store just move? Tell me they just moved…..

Since I was in a ‘tique’ mood I drove on over to Gray street and went in an antique store that I’d seen but was always too busy to head into. It was nice but it was NO Company Store! I saw ONE. ONE single solitary Star Trek item. It was an old board game. I didn’t look at it too close as the original owner had obviously sold it at a garage sale. They’d taken a magic marker and written $2 on it.

WHY WHY WHY??????

Course that wasn’t the price at the antique store….. but it had that magic marker on it… WHY WHY WHY….

Real Men Watch Star Trek

Friday, September 10th, 2010

Real men watch Star Trek. They always have and given the fact that Star Trek keeps coming back in film and television, they just might always watch Star Trek.

If you go back to the original series, what did you see in every single solitary episode? Of course there was fighting, war and destruction but Kirk always won the girl. The testosterone was flowing!

His raw sex appeal and obviously flowing testosterone levels had even women watching. (They loved when his shirt would get torn off.) Did you know that back then chest hair showing was considered vulgar? Shatner actually had his chest shaved for the role of Kirk.

Kirk wooed women show after show. Remember Joan Collins as Edith Keeler? Miramanee, Moreau, Nurse Rand, and Dr Marcus? The man got around. He even managed the first bi-racial kiss on television.

Later on in the show we started meeting other major MANLY players including, but not limited to Khan. Many a woman swooned when they caught a glimpse of ‘that’ chest. Reference the Wrath of Khan

There’s no doubt that Star Trek film and television has been filled all these years with manly men all the more reason why today’s man still likes Star Trek.

It’s got to be the testosterone flowing like mad.

ST – The Experience – For Yourself

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

We were all saddened when we learned that Star Trek: The Experience shut down. Especially those of us that hadn’t ‘yet’ made it to Vegas.

There’s hope for a piece of that prize though. It seems that ‘some’ of the items from the Trek attraction at the Las Vegas Hilton will be up for sale.

There are plans to reopen the Experience at a different location but it was determined that everything wasn’t needed. Those warehoused items are the ones ‘we’ might be able to acquire…

Torres or Uhura?

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

I watched, or rather re-watched The Terminal this past weekend.

It’s fun to watch old movies, because you tend to spot people in the film that you didn’t realize or remember were in it.

Case in point is Ms. Zoe Saldana. She played the part of Dolores Torres. Ms. Dolores Torres, in the film The Terminal, portrayed a desk worker whose passion was attending Star Trek conventions as Yeoman Rand.

Strange how fate steps in. Just a few years later and here she is, as a full fledged member of Star Fleet’s Uhura.

Fact is indeed stranger than fiction.
